Basic Characteristics of Rubber Sealing Components

Natural rubber generally refers to the solid material produced from natural latex collected from rubber trees through processing procedures such as coagulation and drying. Natural rubber is a natural polymer compound whose main component is polyisoprene, with the molecular formula (C5H8)n. Its rubber hydrocarbon (polyisoprene) content is above 90%, and it also contains small amounts of proteins, fatty acids, sugars, ash and other substances.
  Physical properties of natural rubber. Natural rubber has relatively high elasticity and slight plasticity at room temperature, as well as excellent mechanical strength. It has low hysteresis loss and generates little heat during repeated deformation, giving it excellent flexural fatigue resistance. In addition, as a non-polar rubber, it has good electrical insulation properties.
  Rubber, together with plastics and fibers, is known as one of the three major synthetic materials. It is a polymer material with high extensibility and complete elasticity. The most prominent characteristic of rubber is that it has an extremely low elastic modulus and a high elongation. In addition, it has good resistance to air permeability, various chemical media, and electrical insulation. Certain specialty synthetic rubbers also offer good oil and temperature resistance, resisting swelling caused by animal and vegetable oils, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, fuel oils and solvent oils. Their cold resistance can reach as low as −60℃ to −80℃, while their heat resistance can reach as high as +180℃ to +350℃. Rubber is also resistant to various flexing and bending deformations due to its low hysteresis loss. A third characteristic of rubber is that it can be used together, blended or compounded with a variety of materials to modify its properties and obtain good overall performance.
